The Commission Supports Cotton Research

The Georgia Cotton Commission is pleased that our 2010, producer referendum passed with 92% affirmative votes and the resounding grower confidence that represents to us. With that said, it remains business as usual for us; a constant stream of work, activities and investment in our producer-funded programs of research, promotion and education.

Through growers’ support, the Commission administers the research program while working closely with the University of Georgia Extension and Research faculty and Cotton Incorporated. Valuable information and data gathered from the projects conducted on the latest technologies and crop management methods are then disseminated to growers through our education program. Our intent is to enable them to learn more cost-efficient production strategies for higher yields and high quality.

Each year, the Commission typically invests about $600 thousand toward comprehensive research projects. That, coupled with grants we receive from the federal government shows a huge financial commitment made to cotton research in our state. Further, Georgia is fortunate to have a premier team of Extension and university scientists working on our growers’ behalves.

Research projects to be conducted during Fiscal and Calendar Year 2011 (July 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011), are in-place as determined by the review, evaluation and funding approval process. This is carried-out by the Commission’s board, Research Advisory Committee and Cotton Incorporated’s State Support Committee.
